Wednesday, May 13th: Some Site Updates

Hello!

It's been a bit since I've updated the front page, so I figured I'd give a little update about the site in general - what's new, what I intend to add in the future, that sort of thing.

The biggest new additions of late are comment boxes on the blog posts and reconfiguring the site for mobile.

The comment boxes were asked for a few times by a few different people, and since this site is hosted statically I was originally under the impression that it would be a pain to do without some hacky workaround. Ultimately I went with commentbox.io, a free embedded comment box service that was way less of a hassle to set up than I had initially expected. It does make you login to comment, but it supports SSO to sign in with Google or Facebook and all that so it's not terribly convoluted.

The mobile configuration may still be sort of a work in progress. I've made the screen a bit wider for viewing on small devices and set up the nav so it's not in the way of all the other content. I haven't tested with that many different layouts, so there's a good chance it may look better on some phones and worse on others. If it looks funky on your phone, please feel free to reach out and let me know!

Other than that, the big plans at the moment are to set up an RSS feed so that people can be automatically informed when I've made updates, and to fix the word of the day thing. I might make it word of the week at this point, as that may actually be not a huge pain to maintain. Also people would notice less when I don't update it.
